The Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) invites applications from Master’s program students from the Department of International Studies who wish to participate in the non-degree student exchange program at the Geneva Graduate Institute during the Spring 2027 semester (February 22 – May 28, 2027).

The Geneva Graduate Institute offers a highly international academic environment in the heart of International Geneva, with fields of study including international relations, international economics, international law, international history, anthropology and sociology, and international affairs and development studies.

1. Application for GSIS Nomination

Students who wish to apply must submit the following documents to the GSIS Main Office via email by Friday, September 18, 2026

•    1) Application form (use the attached form and include a photo)
•    2) Official academic transcript
•    3) Proof of English language proficiency
•    4) One letter of recommendation
•    5) Current résumé or CV
•    6) Study plan or statement of purpose

Important: GSIS will nominate selected applicants to the Geneva Graduate Institute. However, final admission decisions are made by the Geneva Graduate Institute.

2. Application to the Geneva Graduate Institute

GSIS will nominate selected students by submitting the following information to the Geneva Graduate Institute:

•    - Student’s full name
•    - Date of birth
•    - Email address

After receiving the nomination, the Geneva Graduate Institute will send application instructions directly to the nominated students.

Nominated students must complete the online application and submit the required supporting documents by November 1, 2026.

The application generally requires:

•    - Online application form
•    - Copies of academic transcripts and university diplomas
•    - Proof of English language proficiency, if applicable
•    - Passport-size photo
•    - Copy of passport

The Institute processes applications on a rolling basis. Students are therefore encouraged to complete their applications as early as possible.

3. Academic Information and Courses

The Geneva Graduate Institute offers courses in areas including:

•    - International Relations / Political Science
•    - International Affairs and Development Studies
•    - International Economics
•    - International Law
•    - International History
•    - Anthropology and Sociology

Most courses are taught in English. Knowledge of French is not required for admission. Students whose previous education was not conducted in English may be required to provide proof of English proficiency.

Incoming exchange students may take eligible Master-level courses. Compulsory courses, research method electives, and workshops are not open to exchange students. Course registration is finalized after admission and is subject to course availability.

Students should review the available courses and consult with their academic advisor before finalizing their study plan.

4. Credit Recognition

Under current GSIS regulations:

•    - Up to 6 credits per semester may be taken at the host university and recognized toward the Ewha GSIS degree.
•    - For Master’s students, a total of up to 12 credits from credit exchange and other credit recognition may be counted toward graduation.
•    - Credit recognition is subject to the required application and departmental approval.
• Students should consult the GSIS Office before registering for courses at the Geneva Graduate Institute.

5. Tuition, Housing, and Living Expenses

Exchange students do not pay tuition fees to the Geneva Graduate Institute.

Students are responsible for all other expenses, including but not limited to:

•    - Tuition fees payable to Ewha 
•    - Airfare and other travel expenses
•    - Housing
•    - Food and living expenses
•    - Health insurance
•    - Visa and residence permit-related expenses
•    - Books and other study materials

The Institute offers student residences, but housing availability is limited. The Institute recommends that students apply for housing as early as possible, as rooms are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Institute estimates that a monthly budget of approximately CHF 1,800–2,000 is generally sufficient for living expenses in Geneva, including housing, food, health insurance, transportation, and everyday expenses.

6. Important Dates

Admissions are processed on a rolling basis. Students who are admitted earlier may have a better chance of securing accommodation when the housing application portal opens.
