The video showed students actively and joyfully participating in various field trips and events to strengthen their friendships, including making Korean festive and seasonal food, crafting a pearl key chain, and going ice skating. Around 380 exchange and visiting students from 29 countries studied at Ewha in the fall semester of 2023, and the number of international students at Ewha has been gradually increasing since the declaration of the endemic phase for COVID-19 and satisfaction for international programs at Ewha likewise has been marking a high point. The event ended successfully with the conferment of certificates and a group photograph. In particular, a photo booth prepared as a pre-ceremony event proved its high popularity with many of the students in attendance. The International Exchange Affairs Team is dedicated to raising the quality of programs for international exchange and visiting students. The team is also developing various field trips to allow international students studying at Ewha to experience fascinating aspects of Korean culture, and providing a variety of active support in all areas of life to help international students to adapt to their time in Korea and to enhance their satisfaction in Ewha programs by, for example, holding social events to foster friendships.
President Eun Mee Kim Hosts a Talk with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva
President Eun Mee Kim Hosts a Talk with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva Following a series of visits to Ewha in 2023 by Nobel Prize winners as well as world-renowned academic and expert authorities in various fields, a female leader from an international organization dedicated to promoting international economic cooperation and financial stability met with Ewha students to share her leadership and insight at the end of the year. Ewha President Eun Mee Kim and Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) engaged in conversation under the theme of “Bridging Gaps & Building Sustainable Future” at Emerson Chapel at 10 a.m. on December 15, 2023 (Fri.). This visit was the second event following the conversation with Christine Lagarde, the first woman to serve as the head of the IMF, under the theme of the “Future of Korea’s Education System and the Role of Women in Society.” Managing Director Georgieva decided to visit Ewha to meet the next generation of young women leaders. The event consisted of a fireside chat between President Eun Mee Kim and Managing Director Georgieva, followed by a Q&A session with students. President Eun Mee Kim represents South Korea as an expert on international cooperation and development, as the only Korean to be included in a list of 15 authors designated by the UN in 2016 to compile the 2019 Global Sustainable Development Report. She is also an opinion leader who has consistently spoken out to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals against the climate crisis and poverty. Meanwhile, Managing Director Georgieva has significant experience in the field of international development through organizations such as the World Bank and the EU, managing the world’s largest humanitarian aid budget through the latter in her work to resolve liabilities in the euro zone and resolve refugee crises. President Eun Mee Kim and Managing Director Georgieva engaged in a constructive conversation about various global crises including the pandemic and the climate crisis, as well as plans to build a sustainable future. Following the conversation, around 120 students who attended the event asked Managing Director Georgieva, who is working on promoting international economic cooperation and financial stability as a female head of an international organization for all of its 190 member countries, about her leadership and insight. Whenever heads of state and opinion leaders from around the world visit South Korea, Ewha serves as a venue to communicate with the next generation of talented women. Ewha also continues to maintain networks with global female leaders, including U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton (2009), Chilean President Michelle Bachelet (2009), and German Chancellor Angela Merkel (2010), thereby offering Ewha students access to unique global experiences.
