Notice on the Discontinuation of the Progress Review Requirement for Ph.D. and Combined M.A./Ph.D. Students in the Department of International Studies 

The Department of International Studies at the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) has reviewed the Progress Review requirement for its Ph.D. and Combined M.A./Ph.D. programs. As a result, the requirement will be discontinued as outlined below.

1. Change

Discontinuation of the Progress Review requirement for the Ph.D. and Combined M.A./Ph.D. programs in the Department of International Studies.

2. Effective Date

Effective from the Fall 2026 semester (2026-2).

3. Applicable Students

All currently enrolled Ph.D. and Combined M.A./Ph.D. students in the Department of International Studies (including current students; applied retroactively).

4. Reason for the Change

The purpose of the Progress Review is to monitor students' academic and research progress. However, this function is now adequately fulfilled through faculty supervision and the existing academic advising system. In addition, the Progress Review is a departmental requirement established by the Department of International Studies rather than a university-wide degree requirement. Therefore, the Department has decided to discontinue the requirement in order to streamline academic administration and reduce students' academic and administrative burden.

국제대학원 국제학과에서는 박사과정 및 석·박사통합과정의 Progress Review(중간점검 평가) 제도를 재검토한 결과, 아래와 같이 해당 제도를 폐지하오니 참고하시기 바랍니다.

1. 변경 내용

국제학과 박사과정 및 석·박사통합과정 Progress Review(중간점검 평가) 제도 폐지

2026학년도 2학기부터

3. 적용 대상

국제학과 박사과정 및 석·박사통합과정 재적생 전체(소급 적용)

4. 변경 사유

Progress Review 제도의 기능은 현재 지도교수 지도 및 기존 학사관리 체계를 통해 충분히 수행되고 있으며, 해당 제도는 학위 취득을 위한 필수 요건이 아닌 국제학과 자체 운영 제도 입니다. 이에 학사 운영의 효율성을 높이고 학생들의 학업 부담을 완화하기 위해 해당 제도를 폐지합니다.
