The Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) invites applications from Master’s program students from the Department of International Studies who wish to participate in the non-degree student exchange program at the Elliott School of International Affairs, The George Washington University (GWU) during the Spring 2027 semester (January–May 2027).

1. Application for GSIS Nomination

Students who wish to apply must submit the following documents to the GSIS Main Office via email by Friday, September 18, 2026.

• 1) Application form (use the attached form and include a photo)
• 2) Official academic transcript
•     - Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0/4.0 or equivalent
• 3) Proof of English language proficiency:

•     - TOEFL PBT: 600 or higher
•     - TOEFL CBT: 250 or higher
•     - TOEFL iBT: 100 or higher
•     - IELTS: Overall 7.0 or higher, with no band score below 6.0
•     - Duolingo English Test: 120 or higher
•     - PTE: 68 or higher

• 4) One letter of recommendation
• 5) Current résumé or CV

Important: GSIS will nominate selected applicants to the Elliott School. However, final admission decisions are made by the Elliott School/GWU.

2. Application to the Elliott School

Students nominated by GSIS will receive automated login instructions from GW Passport and will then complete the Elliott School’s online application.

Nominated students must complete the online application by October 31, 2026.

The online application will require the following:

• 1) Elliott School Exchange Application
• 2) Official transcripts
      Upload scanned copies of current and previous academic transcripts.
• 3) Passport and U.S. visa history
      Upload a scanned copy of your current passport and copies of any previous U.S. visas, if applicable.
• 4) Proof of English language proficiency
      Upload a scanned copy of a valid TOEFL or IELTS score report.
• 5) Visa Request and Financial Certificate Form for International Students
      Students applying for J-1 exchange visitor status must complete this form and submit supporting financial documentation from the student’s or sponsor’s bank.

Students who submit a complete application by the deadline can expect to receive notification of admission by November 16, 2026.

Further information regarding visa requirements, course registration, housing, health insurance, required immunizations, and orientation will be provided by GWU after admission.

3. Credit Transfer

Under the current GSIS regulations:

• - Up to 6 credits per semester may be taken at GWU and recognized toward the Ewha GSIS degree.
• - For Master’s students, a total of up to 12 credits from credit exchange and other credit recognition may be counted toward graduation.
• - Credit recognition is subject to the required application and departmental approval.
• - Students must complete the required procedures and obtain approval before the credits can be recognized toward graduation.
• - As credit transfer policies may vary by exchange institution, students should consult the GSIS Office before registering for courses at GWU.

4. Tuition and Housing

Exchange students will pay tuition to Ewha GSIS and receive a tuition and tuition-based fee waiver from the Elliott School.

Students are responsible for all other expenses, including but not limited to:

• - Airfare and other travel expenses
• - Housing
• - Food and living expenses
• - Books and other study materials
• - Health insurance
• - Visa-related expenses

Students are responsible for arranging their own housing. Information on off-campus housing options will be provided by GWU.
