GDIS Doctoral Dissertation Research Presentation Award (Starting Fall 2026)

The Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) is pleased to announce the launch of the Doctoral Dissertation Research Presentation Award, beginning in Fall 2026.

This program provides competitive travel support to PhD candidates of the Department of International Studies presenting dissertation-related research at international academic conferences, with the goal of promoting the global dissemination of GSIS research.

1. Program Purpose

The Award aims to:

  - Support the international presentation of high-quality doctoral research 

  - Enhance GSIS’s global academic engagement 

  - Strengthen doctoral students’ academic and professional development 

  - Increase the international visibility of GSIS research

2. Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

1. 1) Enrollment Status 
2.   -Must be an enrolled Ph.D. student in the GSIS International Studies program at Ewha Womans University 
   •   -Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 4.1
   •   -Must have reached ABD (All But Dissertation) status at the time of application 

2. 2) Conference Presentation 

•   -Must have received official acceptance to present a paper at an international conference 
•   -The presentation must be based on the applicant’s dissertation research 

3. 3) Conference Eligibility 

1.   -The conference must qualify as an international conference, defined as one organized by an international academic or professional organization, with participation from multiple (at least 3) countries and conducted in an international language (e.g., English) 
   •   -Domestic conferences, even if conducted in English, are not considered international 
   •   -GSIS reserves the right to determine the eligibility of the conference 

4. 4) Timing of Conference 
   •   -The conference must take place within the eligible funding period specified in the application timeline 

5. 5) Funding Restrictions 

1.   -Applicants who receive full financial support for the same conference from other sources may be deemed ineligible or receive reduced support 

6. 6) Participation Requirement 

1.   -Applicants must attend and present in person at the conference (unless otherwise approved under exceptional circumstances) 

3. Application Timeline

The Award is offered once per year according to the following schedule:

•   -Application Deadline: October 30, 2026
•   -Covers conferences held: September (current year) – August (following year) 

Results will be announced within approximately one month of the application deadline.

4. Important Application Policy

•   -Applications must be submitted after conference acceptance and before the conference takes place. 
•   -All required materials must be submitted by the application deadline. 
•   -Conference acceptance must be confirmed at the time of application; however, acceptances received within 7 days after the deadline may be considered, provided that all other application materials were submitted on time. 
•   -Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

5. Funding Support

Partial travel support will be provided 

  -Award amount: 

•      -KRW 1,000,000 (Asia) 
•      -KRW 2,000,000 (outside Asia) 

  -Approximately 2 recipients per year, subject to available funding 

  -Eligible expenses may include airfare, conference registration fees, and accommodation directly related to conference participation.

6. Application Materials

Applicants must complete and submit the application form along with the following materials:

•   -Statement of purpose (maximum 1 page) 
•   -Abstract of the accepted paper 
•   -Proof of conference acceptance 
•   -Conference information (e.g., website link) 
•   -Brief endorsement from dissertation advisor 
•   -Curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages)

7. Recipient Responsibilities

Upon return from conference, award recipients are required to:

•   -Submit a post-conference report (1–2 pages) 
•   -Provide proof of presentation 
•   -Summarize academic outcomes and relevance to their dissertation research

국제학과 박사학위 논문 연구발표 지원 프로그램(2026학년도 2학기 시행)

1. 프로그램 목적

•   -우수한 박사급 연구의 해외 발표 지원 
•   -박사과정생의 학술적·전문적 역량 강화 

2. 지원자격

지원자는 다음의 요건을 모두 충족해야 합니다.

1. 1) 재학상태 
   •   -이화여자대학교 국제대학원 국제학과 박사과정 학생으로 등록한 자(등록금 납부) 
   •   -누적 평점 4.1 이상인 자
   •   -논문 작성 중인 박사과정 수료생 (ABD (All But Dissertation))

2. 2) 학술대회 발표

•   -국제 학술대회 발표 논문 게재 확정 통보를 받은 자 
•   -발표 내용은 신청자의 박사학위 논문 연구에 기반해야 함

3. 3) 국제학술대회 요건

•   -국제 학술 단체 또는 전문 기관이 주관하고, 다국적(최소 3개국) 연구자가 참여하며, 국제 공용어(영어 등)로 진행되는 대회
•   -국내에서 개최되는 학술대회는 영어로 진행되더라도 인정되지 않음
•   -국제학술대회 요건 충족에 대한 최종 결정 권한은 국제대학원에 있음

4. 4) 국제학술대회 시기

•   -해당 국제학술대회는 명시된 지원 가능 기간 내에 개최되어야 함

5. 5) 지원 제한 사항

•   -동일한 학회에 대해 다른 출처로부터 재정 지원을 받는 신청자는 지원 자격이 없거나 지원 금액이 감액될 수 있음

6. 6) 참여 요건 

•   -신청자는 학회에 직접 참석하여 발표해야 함(별도 승인된 예외 상황 제외) 

3. 신청 일정

지원금은 다음의 일정에 따라 연 1회 지원됩니다.

•   -지원 마감일: 10월 30일
•   -지원 대상 학술대회: 당해 연도 9월~익년 8월 사이 개최되는 국제학술대회
•   -결과 발표: 신청 마감일로부터 약 1개월 이내 

4. 주요 참고 사항

•   -신청서는 학회 참가 승인(acceptance)을 받은 이후, 그리고 학회 개최 전에 제출해야 함
•   -모든 제출 서류는 신청 마감일까지 제출 완료되어야 함.
•   -신청 시점에서 학회 발표 승인이 확정되어야 함. 단, 다른 모든 서류가 기한 내 제출된 경우에 한해, 마감일 이후 7일 이내에 받은 승인도 인정될 수 있음.
•   -서류가 미비하거나 기한이 지난 신청서는 심사 대상에서 제외됨.

5. 지원 사항

여비의 일부를 다음과 같이 지원함.

•   -지원 금액: 
  •      -KRW 1,000,000 (아시아 지역) 
  •      -KRW 2,000,000 (아시아 외 지역) 
•   -선발 인원: 연간 약 2명 내외(예산 상황에 따라 변동 가능)
•   -지원 항목: 항공료, 학술대회 등록비, 숙박비 등 직접적으로 관련된 경비
