[GDIS] Notice for Elliott School exchange program for Fall 2023

Student Exchange Program for Fall 2023 semester

The Elliott School of International Affairs, the George Washington University

Master’s program students who want to apply for the non-degree, exchange student program for Fall 2023 semester (from August to December) are required to submit the application documents to GSIS main office no later than March 3 (Fri), 2023Nominees should have a strong interest in global issues, regional studies, and/or other fields with an international focus.

Application for GSIS office nomination(to be submitted to GSIS office) 

- Application form (use below form, with picture)

- A copy of official academic transcripts from every university, professional school or other institution(s) of higher education attended

- A copy of TOEFL: score at least 250 CBT, 100 IBT, IELTS overall score of 7.0 (with no individual band score below 6.0) is required

- A statement of purpose (no form)

- One letter of Recommendation

- A copy of current resume or C.V.

* GSIS office can recommend students, however, all the rights are fundamentally granted under GWU admission office. 



After nomination (for Elliott School online system)

* Nominated students by GSIS office are required to log on Elliott School online system:     

Upon receipt of the nominations from GSIS, Elliott School will open the on-line application for students and provide instructions to them via automated email.  The application process requires students to complete information on-line (by around March 2023).


Each application requires the following on-line Fillable Forms: 

- Elliott School Exchange Application 

- Official Transcripts: The applicant must upload scanned copies of current and prior academic transcripts. 

- Passport and Prior U.S. Visa History Information: The application must upload a scanned copy of a current passport and any prior U.S. visas. 

- Proof of English Language Competency: Study at GW requires strong proficiency in English. The applicant must upload scanned copies of current TOEFL or IELTS score reports. The English language scores noted below are the minimum test scores accepted for the exchange program: 


TOEFL score minimum requirements: 

- 250 on the TOEFL Computer Exam 

- 100 on the TOEFL Internet Exam 


IELTS score minimum requirements: 

- Overall band score of 7.0, with no individual band score below 6.0 


* Visa Request and Financial Certificate Form for International Students: To determine whether an exchange application is eligible for a Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor Status (J-1) Visa, form DS 2019, GW requires each student to complete this form at time of application as well as upload scanned copies of supporting financial documentation from the student’s bank or sponsor’s bank. Credit Transfer

By GSIS current policy, among credits taken at GWU, up to 6 credits per semester can be accepted as credits towards graduation of Ewha GSIS. In total, up to 12 credits taken from outside of GSIS can be accepted credits towards graduation of Ewha GSIS.



Tuition and Housing

Exchange students will pay tuition to Ewha GSIS only and receive a waiver of tuition and tuition-based fees from the Elliott School.  Students are responsible for all expenses including, but not limited to, travel, housing, food, books, health insurance, etc.  Students need to seek their own housing with assistance from the relevant offices from the Elliott School.
